Surestart Centres

Our Surestart Children's Centre sessions are aimed at those children who are moving towards primary school education (3-5 year olds).   The aim is to introduce drama to pre-school children in a fun and non-pressurised way, whilst helping them become more prepared for the school environment.  We therefore cover areas such as:

  • learning to sit still when necessary and listen;
  • being aware of other children;
  • to think freely and creatively;
  • to speak up in front of a group of other people;
  • to feel confident voicing their own ideas and opinions;
  • to talk in sentences; and,
  • to enjoy books.

These areas are covered through activities such as:
  • reading a book together as a group and focusing on the characters in the story, then becoming the characters or making up our own characters and stories as a group based on what we've experienced from the story,
  • playing drama focus games such as up, down, stop, go,
  • mirroring,
  • taking turns to come up with clever ideas and uses for props 'what could this object be used for?'
  • using puppets to create scenarios to help build empathy

... and many many more

Each session runs for 45 minutes. Click on the following links to find out more about your local children's centre, or phone your centre to book your block of Wild Things drama sessions.
